The Tale of the Great Sage

There once existed a man whos control over the elements was immeasurable, capable of commanding the combination of physical and spiritual energy, otherwise known as "Chakra." With it at his disposal he influenced the world for many generations to come, revolutionised it and left it forever changed. Since then many have spoken word of his legend, each passage varying wildly by the chronicler. As time passed The Sage ultimately faded into legend, and so it was that many truths became myth; myths ultimately fallen to fables.

This is the true story of the man once hailed as the Sage of the Six paths...

It all began with an attack on Cassardis, the home village of our hero. The culprit was a wyrm the size of which unseen for decades within the domain of man. This was no ordinary creature like the ones that plagued the lands of humanity, who kept their thirst for exploration subdued along with their ambition for expansion outside their walls. No, this beast's name would be one feared by all after this event; Grigori the Dragon God. His arrival heralded a message of destruction one that would arise a call to arms from all the free peoples of the world. Rise it would, for those who heeded it were dubbed "The Arisen" men and women who would fight when nobody else would.

Half of the village had perished in a blaze of fire before the monster took flight. When the cloud of smoke had cleared only ashes remained of what had once been a simple life of peace. Two childhood friends of the sage were among the dead. From that moment on a fire had been ignited within the heart of the newly Arisen, one longing for the satisfaction of revenge and the unquenchable desire for justice. This Will would manifest in the hearts of other towns and villages, remote and grand alike as the winged menace made its presence known throughout.

Contrary to popular belief The Sage was a simple man by the name of Hagoromo Otsutsuki. Unlike other groups who had set out before him his only weapons were of rusted quality rarely used. The trade of a fisherman was common in Cassardis and of the few who hadnt already left only those as unequally unskilled in battle gathered at his side. Of them included a young boy by the name of Ryusuke, having lost all ties to family in the ensuing chaos he flocked to the one man who had allowed him to join his quest. In Ryusuke Hagoromo saw himself as a child, headstrong and stubborn, without control. That temperament would yield a life of hardship under ordinary circumstances but in the now incinerated remains of Cassardis, resigning the young boy to his own devices would leave a cruel fate of struggle, for him and to those who had decided to rebuild. So it was that the peasants of a small fishing village made their way past the smoldering gates of their childhood home, for the first time in life filled with a sense of purpose

So the journey began, the fledgling group that followed Hagoromo left many goblins and wolves in their wake but it wasnt until they reached a settled emcampment that they finally gained respite. Inside the makeshift walls were others like them willing to fight the Dragon. The only diference being their cause lay in love of coin and fortified walls, not virtue. Those that would prove themselves able would be recruited to the armed force of the capital city, Gran Soren. As the group entered they witnessed the latest batch of troops be promoted to service and geared for travel to occupy their new positions, supply carts at the ready. Hagoromo and his allies would go on to join them as a guard escort, both parties mutually benefitting from a better equipped caravan.

Hagoromo took this time to equip some new gear for himself. Choosing to purchase a great hammer as a backup to his questionable weaponry, along with a leather headband. The latter would come to be the symbol of The One Who Would Bring Peace. Joined with more swords at his side they braved the road once more. But first watch was not easy.

Eventually the road gave way to a mine passage, behind it the last obstacle to the capital. As the caravan made its way forward it encountered a variety of beasts, among them a troll of great strength. Together the soldiers and Hagoromos allies attacked weakening it enough for him to deal the final blow. With this morale soared and many more blades began to gather at his side. This momentum led them through the cave and they clawed their way to the exit, the sun already rising.

Now outside and no longer constricted by the environment the caravan was able to dispatch the last of the enemies with relative ease. Our hero broke his sword amongst the last of the goblin skulls its blade finally falling to disrepair. It was only then that he had a chance to look around the open field for those that survived. Dozens of allied troops had fallen and many more laid injured during the incursion. The wounded looked amongst themselves for a reason to go on, their resolve shaken at the prospect of continuing to Gran Soren and facing their potential deaths once again suddenly seeming less and less appealing. Others looked to what remained of the caravan supplies, weighing their luck on their own. Those that remained were either too weak to venture out alone, or looked to be cutthroats waiting for their chance to pillage what remained of the cargo; few that could stand were men of honor. Conflict could already be heard and arguments began to escalate. The tension could be felt in the air, someone would have to act to prevent bloodshed...

...and act Hagoromo did. He rushed to the caravan and stripped it of its flag, the banner that represented what initially united them, and planted it forcefully on the ground. Then he spoke

Even though you have been separated, you shall always remember this moment, when you fought together. Until eventually that time shall come when you will become one… You each carry a name… And with a different shape than you had up to now, you will be shown a righteous path, different from the time you spent on this day. What is true power… …Until that time…follow me..the one who will establish peace and order

    And so they did.
